The GPS in your car informs you where to turn and what roads to take. It lets you know how traffic is and gives you the option to take a shorter route. Now, with the work being done by carmaker BMW, it can do a whole lot more. The famous car manufacturer is adding a new element to traditional GPS: artificial intelligence. The company is giving this new level of navigation for your car the most elemental skills required to learn.
This means that in the future, you will not have to do all the work. Currently, you have to pick a new option to find a shorter route. It also can only inform you of the vehicle’s location on the route and traffic up ahead. With artificial intelligence in the mix, the GPS will be able to give a heads up on possible traffic snarls and give alternative routes to avoid them. It can also tell you routes that will reduce the amount of gas you use. GPS with AI will do this on its own, without your assistance.
The system will draw its conclusions from the driver’s past route history and from the information it has on current road conditions. These elements, when combined, help it to assess and make suggestions for the driver to follow. This type of technology can also help the car to work more efficiently. By anticipating various traffic conditions and road terrain, the system can notify the vehicle’s systems ahead of time. This will help to reduce fuel usage, as well.
As BMW makes this system into reality over time and incorporates it as part of the vehicle’s normal operating system, consumers will see a whole new way to drive emerge. There is no end to where this technology will take drivers into the future, as it grows smarter and learns on its own.
